Domain Registration Process

BasicsDomain

If you want to register a domain, the first step is to check its availability. On the Rackhost website, this can be done in the Domain menu. After searching, you’ll see one of three results:

  1. The domain is available, and you can register it immediately.
  2. The domain is unavailable, but you own it and want to transfer it to Rackhost.
  3. The domain is unavailable and owned by someone else, meaning registration isn’t possible.

In the first two cases, you can proceed with registration or transfer.

What to Do If the Domain is Available

For new domain registration, the steps are simple:

  1. Choose the registration duration. The available duration options vary depending on the TLD (e.g., .com, .uk).
  2. Enter ownership details. Make sure all details are accurate. For the phone number, use the international format without spaces or punctuation. Example: +44 123 456 7890.
  3. Complete payment. Once the fee is paid, your domain will be registered, provided all details are correct.

What to Do If the Domain Needs Transferring

For domain transfers, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain the authorisation (AUTH) code. The current owner must request this from their domain registrar.
  2. Upload ownership details and the AUTH code. Log into the Rackhost admin interface and go to the Transfer Tasks section to upload these details.
  3. Complete payment. Once payment is confirmed, the transfer process will begin.

After these steps, your domain will be successfully transferred to Rackhost.
