Useful Tips For Choosing The Perfect Domain Name

Domain

What Makes a Good Domain Name? – We have already answered this question in our Knowledge Base, but you can never have too many useful tips. Recently, WPBeginner, a popular expert on WordPress sites, published a list of useful advice on their blog. We have selected a few that we would recommend to anyone planning to create a new website.

Use Keywords

We have shared a number of SEO tips and tricks, and we usually stressed the importance of choosing the right keywords. If your domain name has some of the most important keywords, as well as quality content and a good user experience, then Google will rank your website higher.

Short Domain Name

It is no coincidence that we mentioned using “some of the most important” keywords in your domain name. Using more than that will make your URL too long.

Using too many keywords is not recommended from an SEO perspective, and the longer the domain name, the harder it is to remember.

If possible, use a domain name that is less than 15 characters.

Easy Spelling and Pronunciation

If a domain name is difficult to spell or pronounce, it is already at a competitive disadvantage in the online marketing race.

And in offline marketing, too, since the website won’t spread by word of mouth.

A domain that is difficult to spell or pronounce can also be detrimental to company email addresses.

Unique Brand Name

There are so many websites out there that you need a special, unique brand name to make sure people remember your domain name. Before you choose one, check out the competition’s websites to avoid any similarities.

You don’t have to stick to keywords at all costs – especially if your market is too competitive –, a brand name (and therefore a domain name) needs to be memorable too. WPBeginner also asked the rhetorical question: would amazon.com have the same success if it chose the domain name buybooksonline.com?

Avoid Special Characters

Many people make the mistake of coming up with a good domain name, only to find out later that it’s not available. They get so attached to the name that they register a very similar domain, adding a hyphen. This will only drive people to the competition!

In general, you should avoid using special characters in your domain name. They make it harder to remember and easier to misspell.

Avoid “Duplication”

Try to avoid having two identical letters in a row, duplication also makes the domain name harder to remember and easier to misspell.
