After ordering your chosen domain name, you can finalise the registration in your Rackhost account under the Tasks menu.
If ownership details have not yet been provided for the ordered domain, click the “Enter” button and complete the displayed form, whether the owner is an individual or a company.
For certain TLDs, a “Sign” button will appear in the Order column. Clicking this will allow you to complete the electronic signature using a CAPTCHA. However, for some domains, no further action is required.
Why Are Ownership Details Needed for Domains?
Until ownership information is provided, the domain registration will not be finalised, as the registration request is only submitted to the central domain registrar once these details are entered. Therefore, it’s best to complete the required information as soon as possible to expedite the process.
Providing accurate ownership details is mandatory for domain registration with all registrars. This information is essential to validate the registration and to ensure that the registrant agrees to accept and comply with registration rules throughout the domain’s active period.
Ownership information and legal declarations may be submitted by:
- Individuals: The owner or an authorised representative
- Minors: A legal guardian
- Legal Entities: The company’s authorised representative
Verification can be done either on paper with a handwritten signature, or electronically using a secure digital signature or other online verification methods.
Why Are Ownership Details Public?
It’s possible to look up domain ownership details. By default, the ownership information provided is publicly listed in the registry and accessible to anyone.
For individual owners, only the domain name, registrar’s name, and address are shown; since the GDPR came into effect, no personal data about the owner is displayed other than indicating that they are a natural person. While personal details remain private, a domain must be assigned to someone for administrative purposes, which is why ownership details are required.
For companies, in addition to the registrar’s name and address, the company name, address, phone number, and the contact information of the domain’s representative are also publicly available and can be queried.
