Transferring Mail Between Servers

BasicsEmail

You may want to transfer your email to another email server, for example, if you change your service provider. In such cases, it’s essential not to lose your previous correspondence, as restoring it can be important for business or personal needs. You can perform the transfer by following these steps:

  1. It is important to choose the right email plan for you. Consider the number of mailboxes, the size of your mail, and the number of domains you want to manage. If you run out of space, you can always upgrade to a bigger plan in just a few clicks.
  2. If you have been using another provider and want to transfer your email, consider re-registering your domain with the new provider, as this will allow for more convenient configuration options.
  3. Once you have your new mail hosting, add the domain you want and create your mailboxes. At this stage, it’s recommended to reduce the TTL value of the MX record in the DNS zone, as this will minimise the time it takes to switch from one server to another. After creating the mailboxes, transfer the MX record to the new mail server to ensure that no messages are sent to the old server.
  4. If you haven’t used your mailbox with an email client before, you can set up an IMAP account in a mail client to retrieve the contents of all folders. We recommend using Thunderbird, a free email client available on several operating systems.
  5. Once the program has downloaded all your previous emails, deactivate the account (turn off synchronization), then add the new account with the settings for the new storage space and simply drag and drop the emails/files from the old account to the new one!
  6. When you’re finished, you can delete the old account. To ensure everything transferred correctly, check an independent interface (e.g. the webmail interface of the new email account) to confirm that all your previous messages have been successfully copied.
