Rackhost offers two ways to set up email forwarding: email alias and email forwarding.
With an email alias, emails are forwarded from a virtual, non-existent email address created under the domain (e.g. @example.uk) to an actual email address under the same domain. The virtual email address doesn’t have its own mailbox; it simply serves as an address that delivers emails to the existing destination mailbox. Once logged in, the user can manage emails sent to the alias address.
For example, if a user has the domain example.uk and a corresponding real email address [email protected], they can create aliases like [email protected] and [email protected], which forward to [email protected], allowing them to manage all emails in one place.
The use of email aliases is helpful if the user cannot create multiple real email addresses but wants to increase the number of addresses, or if they need multiple email addresses but prefer to manage them in one place. An email alias can be set up in the Mailbox Forwarding section, just like other types of forwarding. The only difference is that the source mailbox is the alias, and the destination mailbox is where you want the emails to be forwarded.
Email forwarding, on the other hand, is the process of forwarding emails from an actual address associated with the email domain to another email address. The source mailbox must be an existing mailbox. In this case, incoming emails in the source mailbox will be immediately forwarded to the destination email address. This can be useful, for example, to forward emails from [email protected] to [email protected] if you want to access your work emails at home. Go to the detailed settings to configure email forwarding.
